Clothes Pins

#AtoZChallenge 2019 Tenth Anniversary blogging from A to Z challenge letter

Clothes pins. Soft wood, an ingenious mechanical device (the spring).
They come in handy for so many jobs in the studio.

I use one of my little canvas bags to contain them.
This allows easy access whenever I need to grab one or more.

You have no idea how handy they are to hold my fabric bins in place to sew the edges.

They help coral pieces of fabric already cut for a project as well as pieces of
more intricate stencils I want to keep together.

I went so far as to soak some in a rust solution to age them.
Then wound embroidery floss on them. Link to my post about that process here.

Do you have unusual uses for objects around your home?
I'm always game to try a new use for an everyday item.

  1. Those bins are gorgeous! I use clothespins to hang clothes on the line, but recently made a few into magnets to hang notes and papers on the fridge - not totally innovative, but convenient since I already had all the supplies!

    1. Really enjoying your "go green" A to Z theme. I wish everyone would hope on that band wagon! Thanks for the nice comment. The bins have been my obsession for a bit now. Need to put some more that are done on the Etsy site.

  2. now I am going to have to come up with more ideas for clothes pegs. I currently use them to hang out the washing and keep my coffee fresh. I prefer the slightly bigger ones as the skinny ones break too easily

  3. I never would have imagined you could make such realistic "old" wood in that way! Sometimes that's really exactly what I want, some items just look too new when they're new.
I probably use ordinary things in unusual ways, but I can't think of any right now. I think I'm so used to using them that way I don't even think about it!

  5. I use clothespins and binder-clips to keep bags of chips closed, but that's not original. Now my mind is whirling, trying to think of creative uses for ordinary objects. This will be a good exercise for my brain.
