Alone Time
Here we go. The A to Z April challenge is upon us.
A is for Alone. This is not a bad thing. Who among you reading this gets enough alone time? I find it a necessity. Any creative type needs their time alone to ponder, engage in trial & error, dive deep into whatever process moves them. Are you honest with yourself & those near to you about your precious time? I am an only child, so time alone was something I had plenty of growing up. Now I find I can get crabby if I don't build it into my routine.
Since I am trying to be honest about my feelings & what drives me in the challenge this year I'm sharing a "self portrait" that I did for fun. Perhaps this will help you get to know me better.
It's a block print I had laser cut from a drawing.
There are no wrinkles here, but rest assured they exist.
Below are the parts I borrowed from to create the funky (a bit scary?)
final product above I sometimes use on business cards.
I look forward to sharing all sorts of random, alphabet driven thoughts, links, art,
& ideas with you over the next 30 days.
Linda,
ReplyDeleteNow, selfie style rubberstamp isn't something you see everyday but is certainly a cool idea! I am the oldest sibling of four, so I was never alone. I always envied my good friend who was an only child when I was a kid but as time went by I began to feel bad for him, especially after he lost both parents far too soon. I am the mother of three kids, four if you include my husband and never had alone time until the house was empty. I'm enjoying my 'alone time' these days doing the things that I love after spending all my time on others but sometimes I miss that and then contentment for the now sinks in again. :)
I hope y'all will find time to check out my Little Mermaid Art Sketch series beginning with ARIEL on Curious as a Cathy!!
Happy A2Zing!!
In most cases the husband definitely counts in the kid category. I think your feelings so well put echo a lot of us empty nesters. I have 2 grown sons who live far away at the moment.
DeleteThank you for your visit. I'm always envious of creative people. I'm not bad at copying things or following a pattern/instructions but rarely have inspiration for my own ideas. I completely understand the need to be alone sometimes. I grew up feeling like an only child as my 2 brother were both much older than me but then I married into a large family and had 3 kids so yes, alone time is not only special, it's a necessity!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! How else could you listen to Alice?
DeleteDid you do the laser cutting yourself, or did someone do it for you? Either way, it looks like you (at least the picture on your blog). Good start to the challenge!

I had it done. I just looked & this was back in 2013! Etchpop. It was a Kickstarter campaign so I hopped on. Doesn't look like they are functioning now. Too bad.
DeleteI love that self-portait! You do amazing work in so many forms. My daughter in law did a block print of my daughter she based on a photograph. Talented people both of you!
ReplyDeleteAwe thanks! Just checked out your blog for the challenge this year...love the look & the word play. I'll be following.
DeleteBeautiful selfie!
ReplyDeleteThank you! checked out your quilting post for "B". Well done. I'll be back.
DeleteAh, alone time...how I value it and how seldom I have it.
ReplyDeleteLove this portrait of you!
Thanks Mary. You are one busy lady!!!!
DeleteAlone time. A valued treasure indeed!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to your posts!
Hope you get enough of that precious commodity. But binge watching may cut into that :)
DeleteHa! You are sooo right! (Unless, I binge watch movies alone... but that's not as fun.)
DeleteLove this every year!! The block print came out great. Like Patti S., I know those earrings well and love them, too! Signature Linda jewelry!!
ReplyDeleteThanks sweet friend! Glad you are looking.
DeleteYour self portrait is awesome! I definitely need alone time regularly. I wasn't an only child, but always liked being alone to read, play by myself, write, or just talk to myself, haha! Now I work surrounded by people and kids, and have a kid of my own, so it's vital that I have time alone to just...let my thoughts expand, uninterrupted!

Glad you honor that need. I think more folks could use alone time but don't know how to "stop the madness" to get there. You must have a good support network.
ReplyDeleteI love your self-portrait!! What an interesting theme. I am way behind in reading/commenting due to a Disney vacation as well as some out of town family time, but I will eventually catch up!
