Habits A to Z Challenge

In order to be creative consistently HABITS are essential. All we creatives fall off the wagon, often.
It bears some thought & discussion.

Twyla Tharp's book The Creative Habit  is one I return to often.
One thing she mentions is that it is as much about what she doesn't do as what she does.
Dedication to a craft requires sacrifice. News flash, none of us can do it all.
Decision plays a part in being creative.

Great little video from Ted Ex about practice. Well worth the  5 minutes to view.

If it weren't so hard to build good habits & be consistent there wouldn't be books & blogs & apps
& videos dedicated to the topic. Now I have jumped on the band wagon.

Call it practice, call it discipline, call it work. It all boils down to showing up.
"Go to your room" is another catch phrase to describe what needs to be done.
The ideas will come, the work will flow, and it will feel good.

  2. I read The Creative Habit last year and gleaned many wonderful insights. In fact, I just commented on your post about "flat file" and mentioned a drawer cabinet I use. I bought that drawer cabinet after reading about her method of putting all her project items in a box.

    Great post! Thank you!

  3. I haven't read her book but I have seen several dances based on her technique and choreography. Some of the movements reminded me of bird movement.
