Gouache

Gouache. I love the stuff, as well as the word. It is similar to water color but more opaque, silky in texture. It's wonderful for calligraphy with dip pens. It's just one item in the arsenal of mediums.
You can mix up a color you like in a little container, see the old film canister in the lower left labeled "rust gouache"? As well as the bank of little pots in the upper right which are all mixed colors. Like water color you can just add water to reconstitute and start again. I've had some of the tubes of primary colors for over 30 years.

Then there is the "how to you pronounce that?" question. Here ya go!

                                                         Gouache
Apparently I've been pronouncing it wrong myself. Dang!
I thought it was gwash, not gooash. I like my way better.

If you are interested in a more elaborate description here are a couple good ones I ran across.

This popped up the day after B day. Takes putting something black in the mix to a new & beautiful level.

    1. Hello J, I am REALLY enjoying the challenge. Nice to have a jumping off point and reason to blog every day, with just a bit of pressure. I have been poking around a bit every day. There are SO many! Glad you are learning "stuff" from my posts.

  2. I used to do calligraphy a long time ago in High School. I've always been a crafty kind of person, but that all fell by the wayside once I started to write more and more.

    1. Maybe I've inspired you to pickup a calligraphy pen again? Writing IS very compelling. Thanks for commenting!
