
Gouache. I love the stuff, as well as the word. It is similar to water color but more opaque, silky in texture. It's wonderful for calligraphy with dip pens. It's just one item in the arsenal of mediums.
You can mix up a color you like in a little container, see the old film canister in the lower left labeled "rust gouache"? As well as the bank of little pots in the upper right which are all mixed colors. Like water color you can just add water to reconstitute and start again. I've had some of the tubes of primary colors for over 30 years.

Apparently I've been pronouncing it wrong myself. Dang!
I thought it was gwash, not gooash. I like my way better.
